Reception Activities All Guests Will Enjoy

Kathryn Draney

Modern brides and grooms continue to move away from the traditional elements of a wedding. By incorporating non-traditional ideas, guests can have a unique experience that will be fun and memorable. Consider these activities and details to make your wedding stand out!

The Reception

Some of us are born with two left feet. At times, guests may feel a little left out when everyone is mid-boogie on the dance floor. Guests that don’t feel like dancing will really appreciate other options during the reception.

Remember to utilize outdoor space as much as possible. Games aren't just for the kids!

Some game ideas keep your guests mingling:

  • Corn Hole
  • Giant Jenga
  • Connect 4
  • Tic-Tac-Toe

Interactive environments for your guests to connect with each other off the dance floor:

  • Scotch bar
  • Interactive food stations (s'mores, mac and cheese, ice cream sandwiches, etc.)
  • Photo booth / caricature artist / selfie station
  • Scavenger hunt
  • Fire pits

The Guest Book

Your wedding reception will fly by and you'll be heading out the door before you know it. The best way to capture your guests’ emotions is through a memorable guest book that people can add to throughout the evening.

Some unique guest book ideas:

  • Sign Jenga pieces or puzzle pieces
  • Snap and sign Polaroid photographs
  • Collect words of wisdom
  • Write date night ideas on slips of paper to draw from later

The Grand Exit

Plan an exciting ‘Exit’ to end the evening with a bang, pop, or glow! Depart from your reception surrounded by family and friends. For great photographs, pass out any of the following:

  • Sparklers
  • Confetti poppers
  • Bubbles
  • Glow sticks
