Garden Wedding Favor Inspiration

Kathryn Draney

Planning for a spring wedding? It’s no surprise that garden goodies are one of the most popular wedding favors. When your wedding is filled with beautiful blooms and foliage, it makes sense to send guests home with a piece of nature!

Plant goodies add both color and longevity that go way past your wedding day. Guests can take home these tokens and watch them grow, and when they look at their blossoming favors, they’ll be reminded of your special day and the love-filled moments they shared with you.

One standard wedding favor is regular seed packets, which are often customized to have a message from the happy couple. These are easy for guests to grab and stow in their pockets or purses, and they are easy to use – your guests can plant them wherever they’d like, instead of having a pot they have to find a place for. The downside is that these packets don’t ensure a finished product – if your guests don’t have a green thumb, they might fare better with a finished plant that is already in a pot.

Potted plants or baby plants that are ready to go into the ground are also great favors. These are already beautiful and blooming, so guests will have the instant gratification of having a plant to place on their windowsill or plant in the garden. Because the plant has already established roots, there’s no need to worry about whether seeds will sprout. The downside to growing plants is that not all guests will take one – they may not have room. This does, however, mean you can purchase less of them – you could assume that only 3 out of every 4 guests will take a plant. If you have leftovers, let guests take multiple – or save them for your own home and garden!

A new trend that couples are considering for favors are plantable seed papers. These papers contain seeds and are way less messy to transport than regular seed packets! If one opens in the car, or on the dance floor, you don’t have to worry about little seeds scattering everywhere. Your guests can simply plant the “paper” just as they would plant seeds.

If you’re looking for an alternative to flowers, but you still love greenery, go for succulents! Mini succulents are an ever-popular favor choice. They are easy to take care of, provide pops of color, and are a little sturdier to transport than regular flowers. You can use mini succulents as place cards with guest table numbers so that they perform double-duty, or you can just have a table of them so that guests can grab them and go when they depart at the end of the night.
