Picking the Right Wedding Day: Planning a Weekend Wedding

Jacquelyn Kaintz, Private Events Manager at Los Verdes Golf Club

Congratulations are in order if you're recently engaged! If you are still in search of your dream wedding venue, the private events team at Los Verdes Golf Club would love to meet with you. I know that the initial wedding planning process may seem a bit overwhelming at first, but once you get the ring – the next step is picking a date!

What date is right for you? Well, more and more couples are selecting Friday, Saturday, or Sunday for their weddings. In the (current) wedding world, these three days and times are considered off-peak, which may save you a bit of money at your venue and with vendors.

Many wedding venues offer reduced wedding packages, lower food and beverage minimums, reduced site fees, and even booking incentives for an off-peak date. You may find that other wedding vendors are offering reduced rates and incentives for their services on one of these days. A photographer may offer a free engagement photo session or a DJ may offer a percentage off their fee.

Let's take a closer look at each of these dates:

Friday evening – If most of your guests are local, this is a perfect date. Many guests may choose to take a half-day as it is the last day of the week, or take the entire day off in preparation for the wedding. This is also a good date for a party, since at the end of the week, your guests are more included to have a drink and relax, partying with you as you celebrate your special day. This might also work for you as once your ceremony has ended, you have the entire weekend to spend time with any out-of-town guests or get a jump-start on your honeymoon. Saturday flights are often cheaper than Friday or Sunday flights, and your guests will also have an opportunity to rest and enjoy the rest of their weekend before work begins again.

Saturday day – If your venue has gorgeous outdoor views, such as Los Verdes Golf Club, this timeslot might be your best fit and the most cost-effective. Wedding packages for a luncheon or brunch reception are usually less than dinners, as guests typically consume smaller portions. And if you want to enjoy the beautiful vista and have a stunning backdrop for your wedding party photos and ceremony pictures, this timeslot is usually the best for lighting and an outdoor backdrop.

Sunday afternoon – If you are expecting a long list of out-of-town guests, a Sunday wedding might be best. That way, your guests can arrive a couple days early and have the entire weekend to relax, visit the sights, and catch up with friends and family. Typically, Sunday weddings are held in the late afternoon so that your guests are not out too late in case they have an early plane to catch or work Monday morning. If you're looking for a laid-back atmosphere, Sunday might be a perfect choice.

I hope this information helps you in your search for the perfect wedding venue and day/date. If you are considering Los Verdes Golf Club, below is our current offer if you book a Friday or Sunday wedding with us in 2014.
